The phrase comes from the script market, where a clone is a zip file of source code and the buyer hosts it, submits it to the app stores and keeps it patched. From 2017 our own taxi and delivery source code went to 1,800+ businesses in 120+ countries, and the ones that struggled rarely struggled with the code. They struggled with hosting, store rejections, OS updates, gateway changes, and a driver who could not log in at 2 am. That is why the platform is now run for the operator.
What an Uber clone app has to do
A ride-hailing app is judged on the ride, not the sign-up screen. These are the parts of the Exicube customer and driver apps that do that work.
- An interactive map with pickup and drop pins, a vehicle type to choose and a fare estimate before booking.
- Three pricing modes: distance (per km plus per minute), hourly rental and a flat service-at-location fare. Each vehicle type can use a different one.
- Scheduled rides, up to five stops in one trip, a destination change mid-ride with the fare recalculated, and booking for another person.
- Real-time GPS tracking of the driver, in-app chat, and a rating and tip after the trip.
- Driver bidding, where drivers offer a fare and the passenger picks one. It can be switched on or off per vehicle type.
- Dispatch: Nearest Driver and Broadcast (All) on Starter; Premium First, Score-Based and Manual as well on Advanced and Pro. If a driver does not respond in time, the job goes to the next one.
- Surge pricing on Advanced and Pro, with four triggers: demand, peak hours, weather and zone.
- Payments by card through Stripe or Square, by cash, or from an in-app wallet, with promo codes.
Clone script, or a platform that is run for you
A code seller is paid on the sale. After that, the next sale matters more than your launch. We know, because that was our business for eight years, and a sales focus makes it hard to help anyone grow.
Buying and deploying code does not run a business. On the managed platform you run the business and we run the technology: servers, updates, app stores, monitoring and support. How the launch works
You choose a plan and pay the first part of the setup fee; work begins. You send your logo, colours, app name and your App Store and Play Store developer accounts. Branding the apps takes 1–2 business days. We configure the platform, set up hosting and connect your payment gateway, then put your branded app on a test phone, which is when the second part falls due. We submit both apps to the stores, and the last part is due at go-live, when the platform is live and the apps are ready to submit. From there we handle hosting, updates and support.
